How to Retarget Leads Using EMRG Booking Events
Guide for Clinic Brands: Build Google Audiences from EMRG Events
When someone clicks your ad, opens the EMRG booking widget, and starts to book but does not finish, you can bring them back with highly targeted retargeting ads.
This is the digital equivalent of reminding a patient:
"Hey, looks like you were trying to book an appointment — ready to finish?"
Retargeting high-intent leads is one of the most effective ways to lower your acquisition cost and increase booked appointments.
This guide shows you how to build these audiences in Google Analytics 4 (GA4) using EMRG booking events.
✅ What You'll Need
- GA4 connected to your website
- EMRG widget installed with your GA4 Measurement ID
- Google Ads linked to GA4
If you haven't completed the basic tracking setup yet, follow the EMRG Tracking Setup Guide first.
🚦 Step 1: Confirm EMRG Events Are Flowing
In GA4:
- Admin → DebugView
- Make a test booking attempt, and you should see events like:
| Event | Means |
|---|---|
| booking_started | Visitor opened the EMRG booking flow |
| booking_time_selected | Visitor chose a time |
| ✅ booking_completed | Visitor booked successfully |
Don't see them? Check your widget URL includes your GA4 Measurement ID.
👥 Step 2: Create an Audience for "Abandoned Bookings"
In GA4:
- Go to Admin → Audiences → New Audience
- Click Create a custom audience
- Set conditions:
- Include users when:
event_name = booking_started
- Exclude users when:
event_name = booking_completed
Name your audience:
- EMRG – Booking Abandoners These are high-intent potential patients who started but didn't finish.
Optional Smart Filters
To retarget only ad traffic, add one of these conditions:
session_source contains googleorgclid is not null
🪄 Bonus: Create a High-Intent Segment
Create an audience for people who picked a time but didn't finish:
Include users when:
event_name = booking_time_selected
Exclude users when:
event_name = booking_completed
Name this audience:
- EMRG – Time Selected / No Booking
These patients were minutes away from booking.
🚀 Step 3: Send the Audience to Google Ads
Your GA4 account should already be linked to your Google Ads account.
If not, connect it:
- Go to GA4 → Admin → Google Ads Links
- Follow the linking process

You can show ads like:
